Breakfast In America - Supertramp

Breakfast in America – Supertramp

Breakfast in America is the sixth album by a british rock band Supertramp formed in 1969 by Rick Davies with substantial financial backing from a Dutch millionaire Stanley August Miesegaes. Breakfast in America was released in 1979 and it became Supertramp’s biggest-selling album with more than 6 million copies sold in the US alone. The album was at No. 1 on Billboard’s Album chart for six weeks featuring three US hit singles: The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger and Take the Long Way Home.

The album’s distinctive front cover portraits a view of New York City through an airplane window. It depicted Kate Murtaugh dressed as a diner waitress. She was holding a restaurant menu on which the name of the album was written. The background featured New York City made from cardboard boxes. Breakfast in America cover was designed by Mike Doud who also designed the cover for Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti. Doud was nominated for the best album cover with the Physical Graffiti in 1978 and won the award with Breakfast In America two years later.
