Meddle, released in 1971 is the sixth studio album by English progressive rock group Pink Floyd. Meddle reached number three in UK, however sales in the US were disappointing and the album reached only a chart position of 70. The album’s somewhat strange cover was designed by Storm Thorgerson from Hipgnosis.
Storm originally suggested a close-up of a baboon’s anus for the cover. Fortunately he was over ruled by the band members, who instead suggested a close-up of a human ear. Eventually the cover image represents an ear, underwater, collecting sound waves; it was photographed by Bob Dowling. Since then Thorgerson has expressed his dissatisfaction with the cover, claiming it to be his least favourite Pink Floyd album sleeve ever.
